A seismic shift has taken place since Coluche’s famous 1979 sketch mocking the Belgians, to now, when Belgian actors like François Damiens or Stéphane de Groodt regularly appear on French TV. And Belgian comedians and actors are now regular stars of stage and screen in France, from Benoit Poelvoorde and Alex Vizorek to Cécile de France, Olivier Gourmet, Jérémy Régnier and Yolande Moreau, to name just a few. In a mere 30 years, the image of Belgians has transformed in France: metamorphosing from hopeless buffoon to a synonym for someone exceptionally talented, kind and unpretentious.
